Factor Laboratories (SFL) has been manufacturing lipbalms and other toiletries
in South Africa since 1989. From humble beginnings in a garage in Durban, the
business has expanded to a purpose built factory located in Cape Town.
FOUNDER: Stephen Pletts (B.Comm. University of Natal, Post Graduate U.C.T.)
Patrick Gahan, born in Argentina, runs the factory.

2: LOCATION
SFL's factory was the first to be constructed at the Capricorn Business
Park, in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. Capricorn Park is adjacent to a
newly built housing estate built to house the former squatter camp known as
Vrygrond ("Free Ground"). Vrygrond is the oldest squatter camp in
the Western Cape, having been in existence since the 1920's. With high unemployment
and considerable social problems, the people of Vrygrond are in particular need
of the reconstruction and development that has been taking place in South Africa
since the democratic elections of 1994. SFL is taking a lead in providing employment
opportunities for the people of Vrygrond.

3. ACTIVITIES
SFL manufactures and fill lipbalms under our own label, MEDILIP, within South
Africa. We also manufacture and fill lipbalms and other toiletries for customers
under their own label. For examples, please see our existing
clients page.
